Rashly driven Starbus kills woman, two seriously injured

A Woman was killed while her husband and three-year-old son was seriously injured after a rashly driven Kanhan-bound Starbus hit them near Untkhana at Cantonment Area in Kamptee, on Tuesday Morning. Fearing public wrath, the bus driver fled the spot.

Identified as Urmila Kamde(25), the deceased was a resident of Prem Nagar, Nagpur. Her husband Sudhir(30) and son Nayan(3), who suffered serious injuries, were rushed to Sub-District Hospital, Kamptee. According to Nagpur (Rural) Police, Sudhir was returning to Nagpur with Urmila and Nayan from the House of his in-laws ona Honda Activa (MH-31/BF-9615). A Speeding Starbus (MH-31/6221) heading towards kanhan hit them. As a result, the couple and their son fell down. Urmila died of head injuries on the spot while Sudhir and Nayan sustained serious injuries. A huge crowd of onlookers gathered at the spot. Fearing Public violence, the bus driver fled ran away leaving his vehicle on the spot.

Kamptee Police are investigating the incident.

Youth dies after motorcycle slips off the road

A Youth died of head injuries after his speeding motorcycle slips off the road on the Model Mill turning in Ganeshpeth area on Monday night.

Identified as Ritesh Ramansingh Nikam(23), the deceased was a resident of Plot No.19, Neelkamal Society, Indira Nagar, Hudkeshwar.

The tragedy occured around 11.30pm when Ritesh was returning home from the bus terminus on the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. Ritesh lost control of his mobike on the turning in front of the Model Mill gate. As a result, the mobike slips off the road injuring Ritesh seriously. Ritesh was rushed to Medical College but on the way he succumbed to his injuries. 

Ganeshpeth Police are investigating the incident.

ZP chief flays MLA Bawankule for trying to get political mileage

Zilla Parishad(ZP) President Suresh Bhoyar and Vice-President Nitin Rathi, on Monday, accused Kamptee MLA of BJP Chandrashekhar Bawankule of trying to get political mileage for himself from the works sanctioned by the Government of Maharashtra owing to follow-up taken by ZP office-bearers.

Addressing a press conference, Bhoyar and Rathi said that due to ZP's consistent follow-up, the Government sanctioned Rs.4.6447 crore for construction of Panchayat Samiti administrative building at Narkhed, Katol, Parseoni, Mouda, Kuhi, Umrer, Bhiwapur and Kamptee. At Narkhed and Katol, works had already started and remaining work would commence from May 18. The works would take at least one year for completion.

ZP received fund with co-operation of then Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil, Union Minister of Social Justice Mukul Wasnik, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh and due to follow-up by Congress-NCP led ZP.

"Still, Bawakule has alleged that ZP was not starting works of Panchayat Samiti building due to political vendetta. Bawankule never extends cooperation to ZP to fetch funds from Government.However, he is always on the forefront to claim credit for any development work." said Bhoyar. He also alleged that Bawankule was creating hurdles in development works being executed by ZP. Bawankule should focus on some other pending works try fetch funds for them, Rathi said.

Parts of Civil Lines in dark

Despite zero load-shedding, many parts of the city, especially coming in franchisee divisions are facing long power cuts, that too during night.

On Tuesday Night, many parts of Civil Lines plunged in darkness at around 6pm. The citizens started to lodge complaints with Spanco's helpline number. Many of the citizens have informed that their complaints were not received stating that the repairing work was going on.

They said that it is a violation of Standard of Performance(SOP) Regulations as the complaints of affected persons have to be registered with time and date. The power supply was not restored till 11pm and the citizens have to face severe problems. It may be mentioned here that, the power cuts in three divisions has become a common since May 1. Aggrieved residents stated that the time taken by franchisee's staffers for restoring the power supply is much longer.

Savalakhe joins as new CAFO at ZP

P P Savalakhe replaced Arvind Hemke as Chief Accounts and Finance Officer(CAFO) of Zilla Parishad(ZP) on Tuesday. Though it is termed as routine transfer, Nagpur Zilla Parishad Karmachari Mahasangh termed it as an impact of agitation notice served by it to the Principal Secretary(Finance). According to Rajendra Gangotri, President of Nagpur Zilla Parishad Karmachari Mahasangh, and N L Sawarkar, General Secretary, their union had been demanding transfer of Hemke.

Meanwhile, Castribe Zilla Parishad Karmachari Sanghatana district unit chief Sohan Chaware said that transfer orders of Hemke were not yet received at ZP.

Akashwani will broadcast a serial based on various schemes of Department of Social Justice, from May 9 to 28. Patil's fast-unto-death from today

President of Maharashtra Rajya Vanrakshak and Padonnat Vanpal Sanghatna Ajay Patil has decided to go on fast-unto-death from May 9 to press for long pending demand to promote Forest Guards as Vanpal. The Senior Forest Guards have been demanding since long for being promoted as Vanpal. Numbers of meetings were organised in this regard at Forest Department and also Government-level. Neglecting the demand, Forest Minister Dr. Patangrao Kadam has directed for direct recruitment of Vanpals. Considering it as unjust decision, Patil has decided to start the agitation in front of the office of Principal Chief Conservation of Forest.

Vacation Judges named at HC

One judge per week has been named for 4-week long Summer vacation which commenced at the High Court for all practical purposes from Saturday, May7, 2011 and is to last till June 5 next. Justice U.V.Bakre will hold vacation settings on May 10 and 13 in Court Hall/Chamber 'A'. The timing 11am to 1pm remains unchanged.

The dates of sittings for Justice M.L.Tahaliyani are May 18 and 20, 2011. Justice R.K.Deshpande is due to hold sittings on May 24 and 27 in Court Chamber 'D'.

In the last week of the vacations, justice Arun Chaudhari's sittings are due on May 31 and June 3, 2011.

FDA registers case against directors of Hotel Tuli Imperial

Food and Drug administration (FDA) has filed criminal case against Hotel Tuli Imperial, its directors and chef for violating provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Food Inspector Dinanath Shinde had filed two cases- selling curd prepared from pasteurised homogenised milk and for serving friend peanuts which were stored in cold staorage in an unlabelled tray. During inspection by FDA authorities, the Corporate Chief Pradeep Khosla did not produce food licence, the complainant stated.

The FDA has named Gurlal Singh Tuli, Inderjit Singh Tuli, Mohabbat Singh Tuli, Dilip Singh Tuli, Bachiter Singh Tuli, Ajinder Pal Singh Tuli in the complaint and charged them with violating section 7(I) read with section 2(ia)(a), section 2(ia)(c), section 2(ia)(m) and urged the court to punish them under sections 16 and 17 of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.

Property Worth Lakhs gutted in Mominpura

Property Worth over lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes when fire broke out in shops of Hyderi Masjid Road in Mominpura on Wednesday morning.

Hassan Collections, a saree and dress material shop, and a laundry were devastated.

Around 5.30am, local residents notice thick smoke billowing out of the two shops. Within minutes, fire engulfed both the shops. Three fire tenders were pressed into service. Firefighters doused the flames after combating with the fire for more than an hour. However, costly sarees, dress material, furniture and other material kept in both the shops were gutted. Former Mayor Abdul Latif's brother Abdul Rashid is the owner of Hassan collections while the laundry was being run by Anita Baisware.

However, the exact cause behind the fire could not be ascertained so far. Tehsil Police are investigating the incident.

Truck Knocks Cyclist Dead

In yet another hit-and-run case, a speeding truck knocked dead a cyclist near Indira Nagar slums on Khadgaon Road in Wadi area in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Identified as Deepak Maikulal Shrivastav(43), the deceased was a resident of Sonba Nagar, Kalmeshawar.

After killing the Deepak, the truck driver sped away.

On the basis of information given by Mahesh Sitaram Shrivastav(45), a relative of the deceased, a case under Sections 279, 304(A) of the IPC read with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Wadi Police Station. Cops are trying to trace the 'killer' truck.
